Specsavers Macclesfield flips for charity at annual Pancake Day Race

Specsavers in Macclesfield swapped spectacles for spatulas as the team took part in the annual Pancake Day Race, joining fellow businesses in support of East Cheshire NHS Charity.

Now in its third year, the locally owned and run store once again entered a team in the light-hearted relay event, held along the main stretch of the town centre’s Mill Street.

Specsavers general manager Craig Wollaston said:

“We’re always proud to take part in the Pancake Day Race. It’s a fantastic community event and a great way to support East Cheshire NHS Charity while spending time with other community-based businesses. There was plenty of team spirit on display and we had a brilliant afternoon.”

Teams of four competed in the fast-paced pancake relay, with two members stationed at either end of the course. Each runner raced with a frying pan in hand, flipping their pancake before passing it to the next teammate, all with the aim of completing the course as quickly as possible. Fancy dress and good humour were in full supply, making for a lively town centre atmosphere.

Representing Specsavers Macclesfield this year were Craig Wollaston, general manager, Jack Yates, trainee dispensing optician, Oliver Tang, optical assistant and George Mason, lab technician, who all proudly took on the challenge in front of cheering spectators.

The seasonal event raises funds for vital projects and services that enhance patient care and support dedicated NHS staff across the region. Final fundraising totals will be confirmed by East Cheshire NHS Charity following the event.

The store’s continued support of the Pancake Day Race reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting charity and community initiatives.
